Danny Ings scored his 21st goal of the season as Burnley maintained the pressure on Sky Bet Championship leaders Leicester.

Nigel Pearson's men had extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points with a 4-1 victory over Derby on Friday night, but the Clarets ensured they remained on the pace by winning 2-1 at Yeovil.

Ings fired the visitors into a 19th-minute lead which Sam Vokes doubled 17 minutes after the break, with Keiffer Moore's late strike for the home side serving only as consolation.

Third-placed QPR also won on the road to keep their promotion challenge on track, 3-1 at Ipswich.

Niko Kranjcar, Gary O'Neil and Armand Traore all found their way on to the scoresheet inside 23 second half minutes for Harry Redknapp's side with Tommy Smith replying for the hosts at the death.

Nottingham Forest were unable to take full advantage of fourth-placed Derby's setback as they could only manage a 1-1 draw at Bolton.

They led 1-0 through Jamie Paterson's 47th-minute strike, but Matt Mills' equaliser 15 minutes from time was enough to snatch a draw.

A single goal was enough to settle affairs at Ewood Park too with Rudy Gestede firing Blackburn to victory over Doncaster, who remain a point adrift of safety.

Brighton climbed into the play-off spots courtesy of a 1-0 home win over Birmingham, who had not lost in 10 games before their trip to the Amex Stadium, as David Lopez claimed the points with 58 minutes gone.

However, the performance of the day came at Hillsborough, where Sheffield Wednesday routed derby rivals Leeds 6-0 to give their survival hopes a major boost.

Loan signing Connor Wickham struck for the eighth time in 10 games as the Owls went on the rampage against Brian McDermott's 10 men.

The home side led 2-0 at the break courtesy of strikes from Reda Johnson and Atdhe Nuhiu, but after Matt Smith's premature 47th-minute departure, Wickham and Chris Maguire made sure of the points before Caolan Lavery helped himself to a late double.

Huddersfield enjoyed better fortunes than their West Yorkshire neighbours as they ran out 1-0 winners at home to Millwall, although they had to wait until the final minute of the game for striker Nahki Wells, who only completed his club-record £1.3million switch from Bradford on Friday, to snatch victory.

There was another impressive display by in-form Middlesbrough, who handed new manager Aitor Karanka a fourth win in five league games at Blackpool.

Muzzy Carayol was the hero with two goals inside the final six minutes at the Den to keep Boro's hopes of making the play-offs alive.

Wigan extended their unbeaten league run under Uwe Rosler to six games with a 3-0 home victory over Bournemouth with Marc-Antoine Fortune and Jordi Gomez doing the damage either side of Elliott Ward's own goal.

The drama at Watford came inside the opening five minutes when Reading defender Kaspars Gorkss headed home the game's only goal and in the process ended new Hornets boss Giuseppe Sannino's unbeaten start.

Meanwhile, Charlton and Barnsley were denied the opportunity to dig themselves out of relegation trouble when their game at the Valley was postponed after a 1pm pitch inspection.
