From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Chris Wood saved Leicester's blushes and denied struggling Yeovil victory with a last-minute equaliser for the Championship leaders at the Walkers Stadium. The 1-1 draw meant Burnley in second closed the gap on Leicester to four points thanks to a 2-0 home win over Doncaster – with the top two playing each other at Turf Moor on Saturday.

Joe Ralls' 22nd-minute free-kick had given Yeovil the lead at Leicester but yet again Gary Johnson's side were undone by conceding a late goal. Burnley took full advantage of Leicester dropping two points, Sam Vokes' penalty two minutes into the second half and Junior Stanislas's neat finish seeing them home.

Queen's Park Rangers moved up to third with a 1-0 win over in-form Wigan, a first defeat for Uwe Rösler's side in 10 games, Yossi Benayoun getting QPR's goal.

Derby slipped up at Ipswich despite Patrick Bamford giving them the lead in the first minute. Jonny Williams fired a 20-yard equaliser for the home side with 22 minutes to go and Christophe Berra's far-post header from a corner in injury time earned Mick McCarthy's side a 2-1 win.

With the threat of administration hanging over Leeds after Massimo Cellino's takeover was blocked by the Football League, they slumped to a 4-1 defeat at Bournemouth. Lewis Grabban and Yann Kermorgant both scored twice for Eddie Howe's team.

Millwall slipped deep into relegation trouble with a 3-2 home defeat to fellow strugglers Birmingham, headers from Andrew Shinnie and Nikola Zigic giving the visitors their first win in six games. Ian Holloway's team are now bottom of the table after Barnsley shocked Reading to win 3-1 at the Madejski Stadium, Dale Jennings getting the pick of the visitors' goals with a 25-yard piledriver.
