The Addicks captain headed in Astrit Ajdarevic's corner from a tight angle at the far post to secure his struggling side's first Championship win since Boxing Day. The result was a third successive defeat for Rangers, the pre-season promotion favourites, who are now seven points behind second-placed Burnley in the table.
"If you start looking at the table mathematically then we don't get beat at Charlton," said Kevin Bond, QPR's assistant manager. "All we can do now is look to get back on track. As soon as we start looking at the bigger picture and promotion then we could be in trouble. We need to focus on our next game."
Jamie Vardy, David Nugent and Chris Wood scored the goals which maintained Leicester City's lead at the top with a comfortable 3-0 win against Ipswich Town at the King Power Stadium.
Vardy struck in the 19th minute and Nugent tapped home on the half-hour mark. Wood sealed the victory in the 88th minute as Nigel Pearson's side stretched their unbeaten run in the League to 13 games.
Derby County needed a moment of brilliance from their top scorer, Chris Martin, to overcome Bournemouth 1-0 at home. Martin claimed his 18th goal of the season with a 20-yard free-kick five minutes from time. "We were waiting for that one moment of quality and in the end we got it," said Steve McClaren, the Derby manager.
Gareth Bale was on target as Real Madrid took advantage of a shock defeat for Barcelona yesterday and seized the initiative in the Spanish title race. The Welshman struck from long range in his side's facile 3-0 home win against Elche. Alex Song, the former Arsenal midfielder, scored an own goal as Barcelona were beaten 3-1 at Real Sociedad.
