The Canaries had Jonny Howson sent off in the 63rd minute for a late challenge on Yann Kermorgant, but 10 minutes from time Cameron Jerome curled in a sensational winning goal from 20 yards.
It capped an inspired Norwich fightback in which Gary Hooper had cancelled out Matt Ritchie’s early opener. Neil (pictured) watched most of the match from the stands but came down to the touchline after Howson’s dismissal to join Mike Phelan, the former caretaker manager, on the touchline.
Phelan had picked the team. Neil said the players had showed their good work ethic. “It is fantastic for me to win my first game but we know we have got a lot of work to do,” he said. “I think we will improve but it is a great start.”

Martin nips in to stall Ipswich’s charge
Derby took advantage of Bournemouth’s slip to join them on 48 points at the top of the Championship after Chris Martin scored the only goal of their match away to one of their promotion rivals, Ipswich.
Martin claimed his 18th goal of the season when he seized on indecision from Tommy Smith to inflict Ipswich’s first defeat in 13 matches.
Derby survived having John Eustace was sent off late on to leave their manager, Steve McClaren, delighted.
He said: “You need to have maturity to win games and sometimes we have been a little naive. But today we stood up to their challenge when we had to, defended well and played it around.”
Blackpool
Clarke strikes to sink Holloway’s strugglers
Peter Clarke’s first goal of the season boosted Blackpool’s hopes of avoiding relegation from the Championship with a 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Millwall.
In the process the Seasiders, who had won only once in their previous 14 games in all competitions, put one over on Ian Holloway, their former manager, who is now charge of the London side.
