Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Former Manchester City striker Uwe Rosler has today been appointed the new manager of League One Brentford.
Brentford turned to the 42-year-old German after St Johnstone manager Derek McInnes rejected the opportunity to replace interim boss Nicky Forster last month.
Rosler's previous management experience was gained in Norway with Lillestrom, Viking Stavanger and most recently Molde, where he was replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last November.
He was a popular figure at City, scoring 65 goals in four years with the club during the mid-1990s.
Rosler also played for Southampton and West Brom before his playing career ended when he was diagnosed with cancer in May 2003, and he took his coaching badges while in remission.
Veteran striker Forster led the Bees to an 11th-placed finish after taking over from Andy Scott, who was axed in February, but he has since left the club after being told he would not be considered for the permanent job.
Rosler, who has signed an initial two-year contract, said: "I am delighted to have been appointed as manager of Brentford.
"It has long been my desire to manage and coach an English league side and having spoken to senior representatives of Brentford it became obvious they share the same drive, ambition and vision to succeed.
"I'm excited at the prospect and can't wait to meet the players in preparation for the challenge ahead."
