Blackpool’s final match in the Championship was abandoned at the start of the second half as a section of the home fans invaded the pitch to protest against the owners.

With the score against Huddersfield still 0-0, there was little for the fans to chant about, and having endured a dismal season which saw them start the campaign with just eight registered players, they have already had their relegation to League One confirmed.

However, just as the second half got underway with the players back out from the changing rooms, a number of fans ran onto the Bloomfield Road pitch to protest against Karl Oyston and his family.

Flares were set off and a banner was displayed which read “Oystons Out”, and a line of police kept the group of unhappy fans from reaching Oyston – who was watching in the directors’ box.

Everyone seemed eager to get in on the act, with a fan in a mobility scooter driving onto the pitch with his arm triumphantly raised aloft in the air.

The match was temporarily suspended, and the fans made their way to the centre circle where they began a sit-down protest, before confirmation came just after 2.30pm that the match had been abandoned.
