Derby County defender Andre Wisdom was in hospital on Monday evening after being stabbed in an “unprovoked assault and robbery” in Liverpool.

The former Liverpool player was in the Toxteth area seeing his family when he was attacked. Merseyside Police are investigating the incident.

Wisdom, 27, is in a stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery. He had played on Saturday in Derby’s 2-1 win over Reading.

Derby tweeted: “Get well soon, Wis.”
