MK Dons have today made Karl Robinson the youngest manager in the Football League after naming the 29-year-old as Paul Ince's successor.

Robinson has been in day-to-day charge of the Coca-Cola League One side since Ince announced last month that he intended to leave at the end of the season and has impressed despite a poor run of results.

Chairman Pete Winkelman has handed the former Blackburn coach a 12-month rolling contract at stadium:mk and he will now concentrate on assembling a squad to lead the Dons to promotion next season.

Robinson makes the step up from assistant manager, having acted as number two under Ince this season.

He has appointed the former England coach John Gorman as his new assistant manager, with Alex Rae retaining his position as first team coach.

Winkelman said: "Karl is a young man with enormous ambition that has the talent, the enthusiasm and the maturity to build on the momentum our club is building.

"His coaching credentials and reputation within the game are already well established and his appointment provides us with some much-needed continuity in terms of team development, player identification and recruitment.

"He believes in the ambition of this football club and is passionate about continuing to help us move forward."
