Sam Allardyce has requested a personal hearing after denying a Football Association misconduct charge in relation to comments made to the media following West Ham's FA Cup third-round replay against Manchester United.

The Hammers manager reacted angrily to referee Phil Dowd's decision to award Manchester United a penalty for handball after his side were denied one for a similar offence by Rafael da Silva.

Allardyce said: "There's no doubt about the difference between Rafael's handball and Jordan Spence's. Spence plays for the away team, while Rafael plays for the home side. You see it time and time again at Old Trafford."
