Sturridge tries to ignore Osgood's Chelsea record

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Osgood achieved the feat as the Blues won the trophy in 1970 and no player has managed it since. Sturridge hit a double against Watford and scored against Preston North End in the fourth round before grabbing Chelsea's third in the 4-1 demolition of Cardiff on Saturday.
"Someone told me about it on Friday and I was thinking I don't need that pressure," said Sturridge. "I always want to score goals and want the team to win but I am not looking at the record. If I see someone in a better position then I am going to pass to them. It has been a good run for me and we are progressing in the tournament. Cardiff worked very hard as a team and it was hard for us to break them down, but as time went on quality shone through. We were working hard and in the end we got our rewards.
"It was a different position for me. I was out on the left whereas in the other two games I was in the middle. In the Preston game I was also on the right and behind the striker, so I am learning my trade."
Chelsea's fourth goal against Cardiff was scored by substitute Salomon Kalou, who has struggled to get back into the side since his return from the African Nations Cup. But he is hoping his superb diving header will enhance his chances of a return to Carlo Ancelotti's first team.
"I haven't been playing lately and to get in the team and score a goal is very important for my confidence," said Kalou. "You can build a lot of confidence for the next game from it. That is how you win prizes. You need to have a strong bench, people who can come on and turn a game around. We always go for every competition and it is a good feeling to still be in the FA Cup because we know the other top three are out and there is a good chance for us to win it again."
Chelsea captain John Terry has returned from Dubai with wife Toni after being given compassionate leave by Ancelotti. He is expected to resume training later in the week ahead of their weekend game against Wolves.
