Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Just when you think it couldn't get any worse for Philippe Coutinho at Wembley Stadium during the Capital One Cup defeat against Manchester City on Sunday, it did.
First he missed a penalty during the shoot-out, and then after collecting his unwanted losers' medal, the Brazilian took an almighty tumble to the floor, which did not go unnoticed in front of the baying Wembley crowd.
Coutinho had equalised for Liverpool in the match, but soon his afternoon became a nightmare.
WATCH: COUTINHO'S FALL
Sergio Aguero had put City ahead, before Coutinho's equaliser brought the game to extra-time and then penalties after the contest ended 1-1.
Losing manager Jurgen Klopp said after the game: "We are disappointed but I'm pleased with a lot things I saw in the game. It was even in the first half with moments on our side and moments on their side.
"In the second half we conceded the goal, but then we tried everything and scored the equaliser. They had a few counter-attacks and we were too open in one or two situations, but we were back in the game.
"We had a big chance with Divock and a couple of other situations too. It's unlucky, but it's one way to lose in a cup final. It doesn't matter how, so we are disappointed."
