Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Michael Owen, once again, was heavily criticised for his "boring" commentary as Manchester United faced Shrewsbury Town in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
The former Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle United and Manchester United striker often falls foul of users on social media.
His name has often become a top trend because of his bland commentary style.
Owen's critics were once again out in force on Monday night as Louis van Gaal's team cruised to a 3-0 win over Shrewsbury at New Meadow.
Captain for the night Chris Smalling opened the scoring with a scrappy goal, before Juan Mata made it 2-0 before half-time with a wonderful free-kick.
Owen was not impressed with the goal, however, as three Manchester United appeared to block the view of goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler.
Jesse Lingard then finsihed off the scoring with a smart finish following some neat build-up play.
But while the football was impressive, if unremarkable, from the Premier League side, Owen was again the talk of the town.
