Olivier Giroud has been left out of the starting XI for Arsenal's trip to Manchester United in tonight's FA Cup quarter-final.

The French striker, on target in the Gunners' recent win over QPR, is among the substitutes.

It means Danny Welbeck will lead the line on his first return to Old Trafford since his summer switch to Arsenal.

Wojciech Szczesny (illness) and Nacho Monreal (back) were both concerns before the match but are in the starting XI. Aaron Ramsey is on the bench along with Theo Walcott.

Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista picked up a hamstring injury during the recent win over QPR and will be out for two to three weeks.

Radamel Falcao continues to be left out of the starting XI for Manchester United, being named among the substitutes.

The Colombian striker has failed to make an impact since joining on loan from Monaco and his chances to do so continue to be restricted.

Luke Shaw returns to the side for Jonny Evans in the only change from the recent 1-0 win over Newcastle, meaning Ashley Young and Marouane Fellaini retain their places. It also sees Louis van Gaal retain his faith in Angel Di Maria despite some disappointing performances of late.

Robin van Persie misses the tie against his former club due to an ankle injury. Evans is out after being hit with a six-match ban for spitting at Papiss Cisse.

Manchester United: De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw, Blind, Herrera, Di Maria, Fellaini, Young, Rooney

Sub: Valdes, Rafael, Jones, Carrick, Januzaj, Mata, Falcao

Arsenal: Szczesny, Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal, Coquelin, Cazorla, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ozil, Alexis, Welbeck

Subs: Martinez, Gibbs, Chambers, Ramsey, Giroud, Walcott, Akpom
