Paul Pogba is likely to make his return from an ankle injury on Wednesday night when Manchester United host Rochdale in the Carabao Cup third round.

The France international has been absent for United since this month’s international break, missing victories against Leicester City and Astana, as well as last weekend’s defeat to West Ham at London Stadium.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is certain that Pogba will be available for the club’s English Premier League fixture against Arsenal on Monday, but intends to give the World Cup winner some game time as they welcome League One’s Rochdale on Wednesday.

“He’ll probably get some minutes against Rochdale,” Solskjaer said. “But we definitely think he’s ready for Arsenal.”

Meanwhile, 21-year-old forward Marcus Rashford is set to be sidelined for some time. The England forward sustained a groin issue in the second half against West Ham, forcing him off the field.

Teenager Mason Greenwood missed the match at London Stadium because of tonsillitis, but the 17-year-old is expected to be healthy to face Rochdale.
