Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.
It’s a big game for…
Simon Mignolet: The ex-Sunderland keeper has come under fire for his performances in the last couple of weeks. Having conceded four goals on Saturday and with pressure mounting, a clean sheet would propel Liverpool to a League Cup final.

0/13 - The amount of times Stoke have beaten Liverpool in senior cup games. Their first cup fixture on 27th January 1900 was almost 116 years to the day ago. If Liverpool can match the scoreline of that day then they will go through. The 0-0 draw in the FA Cup saw Stoke knocked out in a 1-0 replay only five days later. Stoke did have the last laugh though, finishing one point above the Reds, in 9th, at the end of the league season.
Remember when…
A Robbie Fowler hat-trick led Liverpool to an 8-0 win over third tier Stoke City. Liverpool hadn’t yet heard of banana skin that a cold night in Stoke can present as they unceremoniously thrashed the hosts. The Potters had managed to score ten goals in their previous two League cup games but were unable to present a pretty resounding seeing to in that game.
Check out the highlights in the video below.
Player to watch…
Marko Arnautović: The Austrian forward has scored seven goals in twenty one appearances for Stoke this season but is yet to open up his League Cup account. So often the catalyst for Stoke wins, his goal against Manchester United helped them to one big win this season. With the Potters relying on a big performance from somebody, don’t put it past the ton-knotted Arnautović to inspire a Stoke win on Tuesday evening.
