Caoimhín Kelleher's vital penalty save helped Liverpool see off Arsenal on penalties in a stunning Carabao Cup tie.

Shkodran Mustafi’s own-goal puts the hosts into an early lead with the German struggling to deal with the pressure of the lurking Rhian Brewster. But the Gunners displayed immense character, hitting back quickly through Lucas Torreira, though his goal should have been ruled out for offside.

Gabriel Martinelli then resumed his love affair with the Carabao Cup, prodding home after a Caoimhín Kelleher fumble. The Brazilian then profited after Harvey Elliott was caught in possession, but the dramatic first half was not over as James Milner converted a penalty after Martinelli hauled down Elliott.

Ainsly Maitland-Niles put the Gunners two clear again, but an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scorcher and Divock Origi finally brought the hosts level, but Joe Willock appeared to have won it. But the Belgian struck again, deep into stoppage time to force penalties, where Caoimhín Kelleher was the hero.
