From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Leicester City were leading 1-0 against Fleetwood Town in the FA Cup third-round replay at the King Power Stadium when Iheanacho was slipped through on goal by Rihad Mahrez. He deftly finished, only to turn and see the flag raised, but referee Jon Moss paused the game while the VAR checked the decision, before concluding that the forward had been fractionally onside.
Afterwards Iheanacho said he was only focused on putting the ball into the net as Leicester went on to win the game 2-0 following an opener also scored by the Nigerian international.
“I didn’t know if I was onside or offside but I agree totally now that I was onside,” Iheanacho told BT Sport. “I was concentrating on the goal, I didn’t think if I was onside or offside but Riyad (Mahrez) told me that I was onside. We just waited to see what the decision was.”
Elsewhere High-flying Championship side Cardiff avoided an FA Cup banana skin as Junior Hoilett’s brace helped them win 4-1 at Mansfield to set up a fourth-round clash with Manchester City.
Striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson helped himself to a hat-trick as Championship strugglers Reading eased to a 3-0 victory over League Two Stevenage. The Icelander struck after 32, 44 and 64 minutes to book the Royals a fourth-round date with Sheffield Wednesday after their win over Carlisle. Wednesday avoided an upset as they saw off the Cumbrians 2-0 at Hillsborough.
