From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In a fluctuating game, a Jonathan Walters goal with four minutes to go made it 2-2 and took the game to extra time after Stoke had trailed 2-0 at half time. Then with penalties looming with the scores locked at 3-3, Collins scored a dramatic last-minute winner.
Fulham crashed out of the competition at Sheffield Wednesday last night, a Gary Madine penalty in the 50th-minute continuing Dave Jones' unbeaten run in charge of the Championship side.
Fulham fielded a fairly strong side at Hillsborough but Martin Jol's outfit could have few complaints about a 1-0 defeat. Jol said: "Considering they made five changes and we only had one player rested, that was very disappointing and they deserved their win. We didn't trouble their goalkeeper enough."
Sunderland gave debuts to new signings Adam Johnson and Steven Fletcher, which attracted a crowd of nearly 23,000 to the Stadium of Light for the 2-0 win over Morecambe.
Wigan negotiated a potentially tricky tie at Nottingham Forest by racing into a 3-0 lead by half-time, Maynor Figueroa, who once scored from his own half in the Premier League, hitting another spectacular goal. It finished 4-1, with Wigan's Antolin Alcaraz sent off late on.
Aston Villa recorded their first win of the season as they eased past Tranmere 3-0 at Villa Park, Darren Bent getting one of their goals. Southampton also shrugged off a poor start to the season, four second-half goals at Stevenage seeing off the League One side 4-1 at the Lamex Stadium, while new signing Jose Bosingwa was on the scoresheet as Queen's Park Rangers brushed aside Walsall 3-0.
