From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. This is third meeting between the pair in three seasons thanks to the FA Cup, with Oldham pulling off a major upset last time out.
Liverpool seem far more assured this season, and despite a difficult festive period where they dropped from first to fifth and back into the top four following victory against Hull on New Year’s Day, Brendan Rodgers will not be hoping for a repeat of last year’s result with the Reds clear favourites to progress to the next round and attempt to win the competition for the first time since 2006.
Whilst things are going well for the Merseyside club in the league, things are not going as well for Oldham who sit 19 in League One level on points with Crewe who occupy the final relegation spot.
Lee Johnson’s side are on a run of no league wins in six – three draws and three losses - however, the Latics did overcome League Two outfit Mansfield 4-1 in a second round replay midway through December to set up this weekend’s tie and offer a welcome distraction from the league.
Rodgers may decide to rotate his line-up for this clash after four games in 12 days, although his side must be wary that in the previous two meetings Oldham have gone ahead twice, winning one but eventually losing 5-1 in 2012.
