Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Everton are strong favourites to progress to a quarter-final meeting with Wigan Athletic, but the Toffees have failed to win any of their last four matches. Since beating West Brom 2-1 at Goodison Park on January 30, Everton have drawn 3-3 at home to Aston Villa, lost 2-0 at Old Trafford, drawn 2-2 at Boundary Park and lost 2-1 at Carrow Road.
David Moyes’ side still sit sixth in the Premier League table, despite the recent poor run, and they are seven points adrift of a Champions League place. The hosts could probably have done without tonight’s match as they led the original tie 2-1 before Matt Smith’s stoppage-time equaliser.
Visitors Oldham have been on a fine run of form since appointing Tony Philliskirk as caretaker manager following the departure of former boss Paul Dickov. The Latics have beaten Milton Keynes Dons 3-1 at Boundary Park, drawn 2-2 with Everton, won 2-1 at Stevenage and beaten Portsmouth 1-0 at home.
Before Dickov's exit Oldham had picked up only one point in nine league matches. Despite the recent upturn in form the Latics are still embroiled in a relegation battle and are currently 19th in the League One table, four points clear of the relegation zone.
