From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In February 1973, before the introduction of extra-time and penalties, Bolton and Cardiff forced a second replay in their fourth round FA Cup tie after they could not be separated in the first two games. The third game had to be played at a neutral ground and Bolton won 1-0 at the Hawthorns in what was their third game in 10 days against Cardiff.

The two sides were championship rivals last season and have not met in the FA Cup since 1999 when an Eidur Gudjohnsen strike was enough to send the Trotters through to the fourth round.

Bolton, reeling after their calamitous 7-1 defeat to Reading at the weekend, are likely to be without striker David Ngog for their FA Cup tie as Premier League side Swansea are reported to have made an approach for the player. They are also without Jermaine Beckford who remains ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Cardiff have no fresh injury concerns and are still waiting to finalise a deal with Manchester United for the loan signing of Wilfred Zaha.
