From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The tie of the round pits Tim Sherwood’s resurgent Tottenham against league leaders Arsenal. The Gunners have been steely rather than spectacular in recent matches, but they are still the team to beat in the league, thanks to their newfound habit of grinding out ugly wins.

By contrast, Spurs are playing their most fluent football of the season under new boss Sherwood, with nine goals in their last four games a refreshing change from the stodgy fare served up under the departed Andre Villas-Boas. Mousa Dembele, Christian Eriksen and Emmanuel Adebayor look especially revitalised, and the north London derby has a habit of bringing out the best and worst in the mercurial Togolese striker, who has ten goals and a red card in this fixture.

Arsenal’s excellence in the league has somewhat diverted attention from the empty shelves in their trophy cabinet, but no-one at the club will need reminding that they are on an eight-year silverware drought. A win over their bitter rivals would increase confidence that they can end that run this season; a defeat would narrow their trophy options and intensify the pressure on their league title chase.
