The Fulham striker Hugo Rodallega has hit out at manager Rene Meulensteen for showing him "a lack of respect" during Tuesday's defeat to Sheffield United in the FA Cup fourth-round replay.

Colombian Rodallega was hauled off in the 59th minute of the tie against the League One side at Craven Cottage and appeared inconsolable as he sat in the dugout, covering his head with his coat for several minutes.

"I have never experienced what happened [on Tuesday] and it is something that keeps me awake at night," Rodallega told Kick-Off, on channel Win Sport.

"I love this sport and I always want to do things right and keep my starting place. What happened [in being seen to cry] was rage, frustration and the desire to keep playing."

He added: "It was a lack of respect on the part of the coach – I feel he went too far. I didn't play a good pass and was taken off only minutes after the second half started. That broke my heart."
