From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Gerrard was forced to limp off with 20 minutes to go, while Lucas Leiva will also be absent due to a thigh injury the Brazilian picked up in last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Merseyside rivals Everton. Raheem Sterling picked up a foot injury in the match at Goodison Park, and faces a fitness test ahead of the trip to Palace.
With Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham already eliminated from this season’s FA Cup, the Reds face their best prospects of silverware in this tournament, and manager Brendan Rodgers is likely to deploy a strong line-up as a result.
However, winger Jordan Ibe, who has broken into the first team in recent weeks, is cup-tied having already featured for Derby this season.
Palace are without influential captain Mile Jedinak after he suffered an ankle injury, and manager Alan Pardew also has concerns over on-loan Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo and James McArthur – who hit the headlines last week following his altercation with Leicester manager Nigel Pearson.
But Pardew does have the option of handing defender Pape Souare his debut after signing the Senegalese left-back on transfer deadline day.
