From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Spaniard limped off with a hamstring injury in the latter stages of the derby win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday.
Manager Roberto Mancini said after the game it was unlikely the 27-year-old would be fit for the trip to Wembley but there has been improvement since and the World Cup winner has not yet been ruled out.
Mancini said: "We will decide, I think, on Sunday morning.
"We don't know if it is possible and if there is a risk he will not play, but if there is not then maybe, could be.
"He is getting better. Yesterday he ran, so I think we have a chance.
"I don't think he can play 100 per cent but it is important he is very close."
Mancini is also still to determine whether star striker Sergio Aguero will be able to start.
The Argentinian came off the bench to grab the winner in superb fashion against United but is still to recover full fitness after a recent lay-off with a knee injury.
Mancini said: "I am happy because he had a good impact in the game on Monday night and it is important he didn't have any problems in his knee.
"Probably he is not 100 per cent but Sergio for us at 80 per cent is important."
