Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Stoke City will be looking to side step the potential banana skin of being knocked out by a lower league side for the second year running when they play Walsall tonight.
The Potters were beaten 1-0 by an impressive Liverpool side in their opening Premier League game of the season. The score line remained flattering to Stoke as goalkeeper Asmir Begovic produced a fine performance, whereas they could have made the game 1-1 had striker Jonathan Walters scored from the spot late on. Stroke overcame Crystal Palace 2-1 in their latest match after falling behind, with the winner coming from captain Ryan Shawcross.
Walsall have enjoyed a decent start to their league campaign with two wins, one draw and one loss. Both victories in the league this season have come in away games. Their first round victory also came in an away match, against Port Vale. Walsall will be hoping to carry on their rich away form and claim a victory over new Stoke boss Mark Hughes.
