Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has handed Steven Gerrard a place in his starting line-up for the FA Cup semi-final against Aston Villa.

The LA Galaxy-bound midfielder hasn't played a match of competitive football since the infamous sending off against Manchester United.

An injury to Lucas Leiva made it likely that the former England skipper would be in the side, and today's team news has confirmed it.

Unfortunately for the Reds, however, Daniel Sturridge doesn't make the cut as Coutinho and Raheem Sterling start in attacking positions alongside Lazar Markovic.

Tim Sherwood sticks with Shay Given in goal while Christian Benteke is named in attack, much to the delight of Villa supporters everywhere.

Subs: Guzan, Okore, Sinclair, Weimann, Cole, Lowton, Gil.

Liverpool: Mignolet, Can, Skrtel, Lovren, Moreno, Allen, Henderson, Gerrard, Markovic, Coutinho, Sterling

Subs: Jones, Johnson, Toure, Lambert, Manquillo, Borini, Balotelli
