The former Manchester City and England defender scored the opener at Adams Park but Joe Jacobson’s 50th minute penalty extended Villa’s winless run to 17 matches.
New boss Remi Garde is still searching for his first victory as manager while the Midlands outfit have picked up just two wins in all competitions this season.
Captured by BT Sport cameras, some supporters took issue with the Premier League basement side’s performance at League Two club Wycombe.
One supporter can be heard shouting: “There’s no passion!”
Richards admirably tries to appease the angry away contingent, as home supporters tease their visitors, but with little success.
First team stars including Rudy Gestede and Ciaran Clark were harangued by supporters as they trudged down the tunnel at full-time, prompting their captain into action.
Speaking to the media after the match, Garde said: "I can understand the fans. They travel a long way and we have to accept this criticism.
"We are not winning this kind of game and this is what we deserve."
Villa fans even turned on Garde harmself when he replaced Carles Gil with Jordan Veretout, with supporters chanting: "You don't know what you're doing."
