From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Colchester United defender Alex Wynter has been taken to hospital following a sickening clash of heads with a team-mate during this lunchtime’s FA Cup tie with Tottenham.
The 22-year-old went down within the opening minutes of the fourth round tie after competing for the same ball as Tom Eastham.
Wynter was in visible distress as he received treatment from both clubs’ medical teams and left the field on a stretcher with an oxygen mask after play had stopped for several minutes.
Eastham was continued to play briefly after his head had been bandaged up but was substituted in the first-half as a precaution.
BT Sport have reported that Wynter was taken to hospital for further attention and is being treated for concussion.
Wynter joined Colchester just over a year ago, following a five-year spell at Crystal Palace, where he started his career. The Eagles also tweeted a message of support following the incident.
The Independent's Jack Pitt-Brooke has since provided an update on the defender's situation.
The player’s club have promised to update the media on his condition.
