Adam Federici, the Reading goalkeeper whose blunder cost his side a place in the FA Cup final, had booked his wedding for the same weekend as the Wembley showpiece.

According to reports in today's Sun, it's claimed that the Australian had accidentally booked his nuptials to long-term girlfriend Micaela Gardner on the last weekend of May.

Had Federici not allowed Alex Sanchez's extra-time shot to creep past him, he would have had to decide between his wedding and an FA Cup final appearance against Aston Villa.

Whilst there would have been some awkward decisions to make for the Australian had Reading reached the final on 30 May, there is no suggestion there was anything deliberate about his blunder. In fact, his shot stopping earlier in the semi-final had been key to Reading pushing Arsenal so far.

A source told the Sun: "No one believes he did it deliberately.

"But I bet he is wishing he booked his wedding for the weekend after now."

Another source says he would have rescheduled his wedding.
