Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Valladolid Will attempt to avenge an embarrassing defeat against Real Madrid when they face Spain's La Primera Liga leaders tomorrow afternoon.

In September, the Real striker Raul Gonzalez hit a hat-trick at the Bernabeu as Valladolid crashed 7-2, one of the worst results in their 75-year history.

Valladolid, in 10th, can take heart that their home form against Madrid is better, with one win and two draws in Madrid's last three visits. But to maintain that they must shackle Ronaldo: seven goals in his last nine league games have taken his season's tally to 16.

Real have a two-point lead over Valencia, who have lost their last three matches - two against Madrid in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals and last weekend's home defeat against Osasuna. They face Malaga today.

Sevilla, languishing in 15th place, play their first league match without Arsenal's new recruit, Jose Antonio Reyes, when they visit third-placed Deportivo la Coruña tomorrow.

Milan are back on top of Serie A, having overtaken Roma with a 2-1 win against Siena on Wednesday, and are expected to maintain their advantage when they travel to Bologna tomorrow.

Roma, who lost to Milan three times last month in league and cup, are away to Brescia tonight while Juventus, held 3-3 at Empoli last week, host Chievo tomorrow with Alessandro Del Piero and David Trezeguet in top form. Del Piero scored a hat-trick two weeks ago in a 4-2 win against Siena and Trezeguet hit all three goals last week.

The Bundesliga relaunches a four-team title race after Germany's winter break. Werder Bremen - four points clear - feature with Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart in what should be a tight contest.

Bremen have scored 45 goals in 18 matches, of which Ailton has collected 16, putting the Brazilian on pace to become the first player to score 30 in a Bundesliga season for over two decades.

French champions Lyon, in second after Wednesday's 3-0 win over Bordeaux, need points at Toulouse today - they stood six points behind Monaco before last night's first-versus-third clash with Paris St Germain.
