At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Bayern Munich and Chelsea, winners of last season’s Champions League and Europa League respectively, face each other to contest the 38th Uefa Super Cup in a repeat of the 2012 Champions League final fixture. That night, Chelsea triumphed 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time and Munich will be looking for revenge tonight in Prague.

Since then, both clubs have gone through managerial change with Roberto Di Matteo and Rafael Benitez preceding Jose Mourinho’s return this summer whilst Jupp Heynckes left the Bavarians after leading them to the treble last season. His replacement, Pep Guardiola, and Mourinho will be looking to win their first piece of silverware since their appointments during the summer.

Munich midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez have travelled with the squad despite carrying knocks, as have Chelsea defenders David Luiz and Tomas Kalas. New-signing Willian will not be involved in the match.
