Tottenham slumped to a disappointing 2-1 loss against Monaco in their first Champions League game since 2011.

The homeside, playing at Wembley, conceded two goals within the first 30 minutes of the match and struggled to rectify their early misdemeanours for the rest of the game - despite dominating play.

Mauricio Pochettino's side enjoyed the lion's share of possession for much of the game and threatened down the flanks, thanks to some hard running from full-backs Kyle Walker and Ben Davies.

Their efforts paid off in the first half as Toby Alderweireld popped up at the near post to convert Erik Lamela's corner and pull one back.

But it wasn't enough.

Tottenham threw the kitchen sink at the French side in the second half, with Harry Kane and Dele Alli coming close, but Spurs just couldn't find a way in.

Despite the scale and grandeur of the occasion - more than 85,000 attended the match at Wembley - it ended in disappointment for Tottenham on their return to Europe's elite competition.
