Now the favourites, compared to last year’s crushing defeat to Real Madrid, they face a Tottenham side riding a wave.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side pulled off a remarkable comeback to match the Reds’ own thrilling win against Barcelona on Tuesday night.
A second-half hat-trick from Lucas Moura secured their place in Madrid at the expense of Ajax.
The winner will set up an all-English Super Cup final against Chelsea or Arsenal next season.

Early team news
Tottenham will hope to recover Harry Kane in time for the final. Serge Aurier is recovering from a hamstring injury, while Davinson Sanchez is coping with a thigh problem. Jan Vertonghen picked up an ankle injury in Amsterdam, but should recover in time for Madrid. Harry Winks is a doubt with a groin problem, but could make it back for Liverpool or England’s Nations League semi-final.
Liverpool will hope to recover Roberto Firmino, while Mohamed Salah’s will have cleared the concussion protocol in time for him to return. Andrew Robertson has a calf problem but it is not serious. Divock Origi had cramp against Barcelona but is expected to recover. Naby Keita is out for the season. While Jordan Henderson will brush off a knee problem picked up against Barcelona.
What’s at stake?
The Reds can lift their sixth European crown, while Spurs are looking for their first.
Pochettino’s side could become the second team from London to lift the Champions League after Chelsea’s triumph in 2012. Liverpool have already secured Champions League football for next season, while Spurs just need a point in their final Premier League match against Everton, but will likely make it regardless, as Arsenal, three points behind in fifth, have a goal difference eight goals inferior.
