Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Sir Alex Ferguson has ruled Tom Cleverley out of Manchester United's Champions League clash with Otelul Galati tomorrow and does not expect the midfielder to feature in Saturday's Premier League encounter with Sunderland either.
Cleverley limped out of the weekend win at Everton after hurting his ankle.
And while Ferguson does not believe the damage is too extensive, he is not willing to risk further injury.
"Tom won't play tomorrow," said Ferguson.
"It is not serious. He got a little tweak on Saturday but we have to take the long view.
"We need to make sure he will be available for a long period, rather than play him again and the decision comes back to haunt us, so I think he will miss the Saturday game also."
It throws into doubt the possibility of Cleverley being picked by Fabio Capello for England's friendlies against world champions Spain and fellow Euro 2012 qualifiers Sweden later this month.
United are also deprived of a useful midfield option, especially as Michael Carrick seems certain to miss out too after being forced to train on his own at Carrington this morning due to a minor injury.
Also missing will be Ryan Giggs and England duo Ashley Young and Chris Smalling, although Brazilian full-back Rafael is back after shoulder surgery.
In addition, Ferguson confirmed that with skipper Nemanja Vidic suspended due to his sending off in the first meeting between the sides in Bucharest a fortnight ago, Rio Ferdinand will start.
"Rio will play tomorrow," said the United boss.
"I have no problem with that.
"In his time with us, Rio has been a fantastically consistent performer.
"He will need to rearrange his game a little bit because he has lost that extra yard he had two or three years ago.
"But he will still play a big part for us."
