The 28-year-old joined the Ligue 1 outfit on loan from Sunderland in January and pounced to score his first goal in French football in the 87th minute to secure safe passage.
Scotland international Fletcher also helped set-up Romain Alessandrini for Marseille’s opener as he made an assured start to life with his new club.
Abou Diaby, the former Arsenal midfielder, was an unused substitute, having been included in the match day squad for the first time since his summer move from the Emirates.
Former Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Fletcher revealed last week how Burnley midfielder Joey Barton helped him make up his mind when the option of leaving the Stadium of Light until the end of the season was offered to him.
“When I was contacted by Marseille, Yann M'Vila and another French colleague told me to certainly go, not to hesitate, to enjoy it,' Fletcher told talkSPORT.
“They know the club well and have helped me in terms of integrating myself.
“I had the chance to receive a text from Joey Barton and he advised me to profit from all the minutes that I will get to play at Marseille.”
