From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Schalke's beleaguered coach Fred Rutten is reportedly wanted by Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven.

Last season's Dutch title winners have endured a disappointing 2008-09 campaign and dispensed with Huub Stevens’ services in January. PSV have been linked with Klaus Toppmoller, Ronald Koeman and Co Adriaanse in the last two months but Rutten has now emerged as their number one target.

Schalke have reportedly been on the verge of sacking Rutten for several weeks as they continue to struggle in the Bundesliga. They are currently eighth in the table and lost 2-1 at home to Hamburg at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich's general manager Uli Hoeness has no plans to bring a new striker to the Allianz Arena in the summer.

Bayern have already agreed to let Lukas Podolski return to Koln at the end of this season, but are not interested in replacing the Germany international.

"We have decided that for next season we will go with Luca Toni, Miroslav Klose, Ivica Olic and Thomas Mueller," Hoeness told the Munchner Merkur. "I would rather have a few weeks of having a striker shortage, than go through a whole season with the theatre we have had with Lukas Podolski. If we were to buy another player, who was the finished article, then Thomas Mueller would only be sitting on the bench."
