Cristiano Ronaldo is suffering from flu picked up on Real Madrid's U.S. tour and has failed to link up with the Portugal squad for their friendly in Liechtenstein, the club said on its website.

"Ronaldo returned from Washington DC (on Monday) with a common type of flu and has been told to rest at home and has been prescribed medication," Real said in a statement.

Portugal are away to Liechtenstein on Wednesday.
