From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s a big game for…

Toni Kroos. The German World Cup winner is expected to make his return to the Madrid midfield after recovering from a foot injury and will need to be back at his free-flowing best if his side are to top Group F with a victory. The ex-Bayern man will be fired up and hoping to get one over on his former rivals.

Remember when…

Robert Lewandowski scored four goals against Madrid in just under an hour? The Pole delivered a striker's masterclass to put Dortmund in a commanding lead after the first leg of their Champions League semi-final clash against the Spaniards in 2013. Unsurprisingly, Dortmund went on to qualify for the final where they met Bayern Munich at Wembley.

Player to watch…

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: The Dortmund striker is in red-hot form having scored eight goals in his last five games. The Bundesliga side will look to utilise him once again as their main focal point in attack and with Madrid expected to have most of the possession, the player's pace could prove vital for Dortmund on the break.

Past three-meetings…

Borussia Dortmund 2 (Reus 2) Real Madrid 0, Champions League quarter-final, 2014
