Steven Gerrard admits he still cannot work out how the Rangers team which blew Rapid Vienna away also managed to lose to Livingston.

The Light Blues stormed to the top of their Europa League section after claiming an impressive 3-1 win over the Austrians.

But it was a performance that only made Sunday's Lions loss at the Tony Macaroni Arena all the more perplexing for their manager.

Now with Ladbrokes Premiership leaders Hearts set to visit Ibrox on Sunday, Gerrard has warned they cannot let their standards slip again if they want to slash the Jambos' eight-point lead.

He said: "I've been saying to the players, 'When are we going to get 90 minutes and everyone at it all over the pitch?'

"We got that tonight.

"The only thing in my mind from the final whistle is wondering how there can be that contrast. It is night and day from Livingston.

"Livingston wasn't Rangers. Players under-performing, not fancying it, not thinking it's a big game.

"Then you get players coming here thinking, 'Europa League, a full house at home, I fancy this'.

"If you want to be successful, you can't do that."

Alfredo Morelos grabbed a double and also won the penalty which skipper James Tavernier converted.

But Gerrard hailed every member of his squad for putting on a vintage display which had his mind casting back to glory days of old.

He said: "That's the level of performance I've been looking for since I came in. That's a Rangers performance of old, a successful Rangers performance.

"The challenge for us now is can we find it more consistently. That's the best 90 minutes we've given and we have beaten a very good team. They had good ideas, good players and good philosophy. We beat a good team."
