Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Jose Mourinho's side had to dig in deep in the French capital, having gone ahead in the first half through a Branislav Ivanovic header.
The away goal could prove vital in the tie but was not enough to secure victory, with Edinson Cavani netting to secure a 1-1 draw.
The result means the west Londoners are well placed to progress - certainly better, in Terry's view, than when they advanced to the semi-finals at PSG's expense last term on away goals after losing 3-1 at the Parc des Princes.
"I think both teams were kind of feeling each other out in the first half," the Chelsea captain told ITV Sport. "It was quite an even game and we managed to go one-up.
"But it was a difficult second half. Thibaut (Courtois) pulled off some great saves to keep us in it, but we got away with a happy draw.
"I think the key was last year I think we made it very difficult for ourselves going back to the Bridge - we're in a lot better position now.
"Listen, they're a very good side, especially going forwards. It is going to be very tought but we're in a better position than we were last year."
Courtois was particularly impressive for Chelsea, making a string of fine saves after coming in for Petr Cech.
"He was different class," Terry added. "When you look at Petr in the week, he made two great saves from (Everton's Romelu) Lukaku to win us three points.
"Thibaut came back in today. The competition is great and it is fierce amongst the squad. That's what is needed. We are all playing a team game."
