Manchester United should consider signing up Michael Carrick's wife Lisa - at least she knows how to defend.

The partner of the Manchester United midfielder took to Twitter last night, leaping to the defence of her husband after Roy Keane had labelled him "flat" with "no urgency".

Former Manchester United captain Keane was speaking in the aftermath of Manchester United's dreadful performance against Olympiakos in which they lost 2-0.

Following on from a post-match interview with Carrick, Keane, said: "That interview was just like their performance – flat."

ITV present Adrian Chiles asked what a visibly seething Keane wanted Carrick to say, to which the Irishman replied: "I want him to say something.

"Say a bit more - a bit more urgency in his interview - it just reflected United's performance tonight - flat, no urgency."

Within minutes, Lisa took to Twitter.

"Roy Keane what a **** says anything to provoke a reaction .. That's all .. Done ..", she wrote on the social media site, before quickly taking it down and adding: "Deleted my tweet .. Emotions got the better of me .. Just disappointed."

Keane, who was was an onfield motivator in his playing days, went on to question the quality in the current United squad.

"I don't think any of us could have predicted that," he said after United's miserable surrender in the Athens district of Piraeus.

"They (United) just never turned up.

"They (Olympiakos) were very, very good and technically they were better than United tonight."
