Van den Bergh's shot from five yards outside the penalty box sailed past Twente's goalkeeper, Cees Paauwe, into the top right corner.
The goal was controversial as Twente's defence clearly had been caught off guard. Play had just resumed after an injury when Utrecht took a throw-in that Twente had thought was their's.
The mood then soured and Twente defender Jeroen Heubach was sent off 10 minutes later for striking Utrecht's Jordy Zuidam in the back of the head. "It was a terrible game, but a great goal," Van den Bergh said.
