Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Donadoni's side have lost twice in three games, but the Azzurri coach does not expect to pay the price for rising expectations in Naples.
"It would be madness to think that my position was in jeopardy after only three games," he said. "I feel liked a caged lion right now and I just want the next game to start.
"The public obviously have the right to criticise, but I'm not scared of anything. I understand the anger and I accept every consideration of the media until it becomes personal.
"I am ready to provide answers, I like the possibility to do that. I obviously have spoken to president Aurelio De Laurentiis in a calm and serene way, as is always the case."
The agent of Lazio midfielder Cristian Ledesma has claimed that the Italian club withdrew a contract offer to his client over the summer.
The 26-year-old Argentinian has not featured for the Biancocelesti this season, having seemed set to move on before the campaign got underway.
Agent Vincenzo D'Ippolito told Tuttomercatoweb.com: "It's always the same with (president) Claudio Lotito.
"During the summer he and Ledesma agreed a 15million euros transfer fee if another club came in for the player.
"In the end no team came for him and Ledesma was ready to sign a contract offered to him by Lazio. However, the contract disappeared."
