From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Coach Mourinho believes the Sweden striker will still be an Inter player when the next campaign begins.
Speaking after the 3-0 victory over Reggina at the weekend, Ibrahimovic suggested a summer move could be on the cards with Barcelona and Chelsea reported to be interested.
"I will convince Ibrahimovic to stay at Inter," vowed Mourinho.
"In 2003 I convinced Deco to remain at Porto and I told him we would win the Champions League a year later.
"Ibrahimovic is very motivated after (losing to) Manchester (United in the Champions League), but I can understand his frustrations.
"I think he can win the top-scorer's award if he uses the disappointment of European failure to spur him on."
Meanwhile, Internazionale midfielder Esteban Cambiasso has penned a new contract that will keep him with the Nerazzurri until 2014.
The former Real Madrid star's previous deal had been set to expire at the end of next season.
A brief statement on the club's official website read: "FC Internazionale and Esteban Cambiasso would like to communicate that with reciprocal satisfaction a deal to extend his contract with the club until June 30, 2014 has been reached."
The 28-year-old Argentinian moved to the San Siro in 2004 and has been a regular in the first team for the last five seasons.
Elsewhere, Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino has been ruled out for around two weeks with a stomach muscle injury.
The 15-goal marksman failed to complete Sunday's match against Siena and scans have revealed an adductor muscle strain.
"Fiorentina can confirm that tests have shown a first-grade injury to his adductor muscle," confirmed a club statement.
"The times of recovery should be around two weeks."
