Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho has hit out at Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro for advising defender Davide Santon to look for a new club if he does not receive more playing time with the Nerazzurri.

Both players are with the national team preparing for Saturday's World Cup qualifier in Georgia.

And Juventus defender Cannavaro told the media Santon's place in the national team could be in jeopardy if Mourinho continues to leave him on the bench.

An annoyed Mourinho said: "Cannavaro is still a player, yet he speaks like a coach, a sporting director or a president.

"Talking like he does, he makes mistakes and forgets other things such as, considering he and (Giorgio) Chiellini play at Juve, Nicola Legrottaglie should consider changing teams in January. Otherwise he risks missing out on the World Cup.

"Also (Juve midfielder Sebastian) Giovinco, before getting injured, played very little and should evaluate his choices in the future."
