From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Unbeaten Juventus leapfrogged Milan to lead Serie A by a point after winning 2-0 at Palermo, Leonardo Bonucci and Fabio Quagliarella scoring in the second half. Champions Milan suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat to struggling Fiorentina at San Siro, where Carvalho Amauri's winner came in the 89th minute. "Now we don't have to rely on anything from anyone else," Juve's head coach, Antonio Conte, said after his team went top for the first time since February.

In Spain, Lionel Messi scored twice in Barcelona's 4-1 win at Real Zaragoza to become the first player to score 60 goals for a top-flight European club in a season since Gerd Muller's 67 for Bayern Munich in 1972-73. Messi has at least 10 games remaining this season to surpass the great German's tally.

Borussia Dortmund won 3-1 at Wolfsburg to maintain a three-point lead in the Bundesliga before Wednesday's crucial match with second-placed Bayern, who beat Augsburg 2- 1.
