Your support makes all the difference.Mesut Ozil has apologised to Arsenal fans following his penalty miss and below par performance against Bayern Munich.
The Germany international saw an unconvincing penalty saved by Manuel Nueuer early in the tie before the dismissal of Wojciech Szczesny made it one-way traffic for the rest of the match.
Ozil, who won his side the penalty, struggled with his defensive duties throughout the game and was unable to impose himself in an attacking sense either.
Arsene Wenger even admitted after the game that the penalty miss had had a "huge impact" on the £42.5m summer signing from Real Madrid.
“Yes, [Ozil] was affected by it,” Wenger conceded after the game, saying that the German struggled to recover from the disappointment. “I think he wanted to do so well tonight that it affected him. You could see even five or ten minutes later he was still shaking his head. It had a huge impact on his performance.”
Ozil took to Facebook today to apologise to fans.
"The next morning doesn't feel better either. sorry guys - it wasn't planned that way. outnumbered it was really hard to win against this team. #ucl #AFCvBAY," he wrote.
The Gunners face an almost impossible task to overturn the 2-0 defeat, however they may be able to draw some confidence from the blistering start they made against the reigning Champions League holders that led to Ozil's penalty.
