From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The French league match between Nice and Marseilles was held up for five minutes yesterday after a fireman lost two fingers while handling a firebomb thrown by Marseilles supporters.

The Marseilles chairman, Pape Diouf, was upset by the incident. "What I will remember from this evening is this image of violence which I strongly condemn," he said. Marseilles lost 2-1 after conceding a last-minute penalty.

In Greece, at least 30 people were injured yesterday when rival fans clashed during a league match. Hundreds of Larisa and PAOK supporters fought in the stands of Larisa's Alkazar stadium during the match, hurling rocks and flares at each other and tearing up seats. Police had to use tear gas, forcing the referee to suspend the game for 25 minutes. Clashes between fans also broke out outside the stadium after the match, which PAOK won 2-1.

Bordeaux warmed up for their Champions' League meeting with Liverpool tomorrow with a 3-1 win over Sedan in France's Ligue 1. Sedan led through Nadir Belhadj but Les Girondins recovered through Silva Wendell, Johan Micoud and Jean-Claude Darcheville.

Monaco lost 1-0 at Nantes. A first-half goal from Julio-Hernan Rossi meant a losing start for the new Monaco coach, Laurent Banide. Monaco also had Jaroslav Plasil sent off.

Internazionale defeated Milan 4-3 in a thrilling derby at the San Siro on Saturday - after goals from Hernan Crespo, Dejan Stankovic and Zlatan Ibrahimovic had put Inter seemingly out of sight inside 47 minutes.

The Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf pulled one back for Milan before Inter's Marco Materazzi made it 4-1 in the 68th minute. Excessive celebrations saw the Italy defender sent off for a second yellow card. Alberto Gilardino headed a second for Milan in the 75th minute and Kaka hooked in another to make it 4-3 in injury time.

The win sent Roberto Mancini's Inter three points clear at the top of Serie A - although Newcastle's next Uefa Cup opponents, Palermo, joined them on 21 points yesterday, after defeating bottom club Fiorentina 3-2. Roma won 1-0 at Udinese on Saturday to move on to 17 points in third.
