Marcus Rashford completed a stunning hat-trick in less than half an hour after coming off the bench in Manchester United’s 5-0 thrashing of RB Leipzig in the Champions League group stage.

The England international, whose campaign for free school meals has become a huge political force across the country, was introduced in the second half as United led 1-0 and combined to devastating effect with Bruno Fernandes to spring the offside trap and rifle home his first goal.

His second goal was electric, too, seizing on a rare error from Leipzig’s defence, jinking past the last defender and fizzing a shot into the far corner.

He might have completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot, but generously allowed Anthony Martial to get on the scoresheet, before another fantastic goal ensured that Rashford’s cameo was rewarded with the match ball.
